Biography for Arabella Shand

With great subtlety and ease Arabella Shand invites the viewer to see poetry and beauty in the everyday.  Using oils she employs a delightful spectrum of seductive gentle colours (soft pinks, olive green, pale blues and more) with engaging compositions to lead the eye around the painting.  Her main inspiration starts with domestic interiors and family life - be it a child playing with toys, lying on the couch with the dog or of a still life littered with beautiful objects and flowers.  However it is the manner in which Arabella manages to put all these aspects together in such a sensitive and original way with a sense of timeless narrative and affection which makes this artist’s work stand out. Her influences are many, including Picasso, Vuillard, Ben Nicholson, Winifred Nicholson and Mary Fedden.

Arabella studied at Colchester Institute 1983-84 followed by Kingston Poly and City and Guilds of London art school 1986-88.  Exhibitions (over last 30 years) Include: Decorative Arts, London Bonhams Contemporary Decorative Arts, London, Seven Dials Gallery, London Cadagan Contemporary, Lavenham, Clarendon Gallery,  London. Recent Exhibitions Include: Hintlesham Hall with Cobold and Judd fine art, Ipswich and The Platform Gallery, Mistley.
