Biography for Allen Jones RA (1937)

Jones studied at Hornsey College of Art before continuing his studies at the Royal College. Thereafter he taught art for many years initially at Croydon College and Chelsea School of Art, as well as in the United States. Later he was appointed a Trustee of the British Museum from 1990 to 1999.

Jones soon gained an international reputation, enjoying 3major retrospectives of his work. Firstly at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, which travelled to the Serpentine in London. Secondly at Tat the ICA, London, which wemt on tour to Edinburgh and Arnolfini, Bristol. Thirdly he held an exhibition  at the Barbican, London, which was toured worldwide by the British Council.
