Biography for Henry Collins (1910 - 1994)

Early Life

Herny was Born in Colchester and studied at Colchester School of Art followed by the Central School of Art, London. During the war he served with the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers. After the war he started working as a freelance designer, on commissions from the Central Office of Information and the Festival of Britain. He taught part-time for twenty-five years in the Graphic Design Department at St. Martin’s  London as well as at Colchester School of Art  His fellow painters included John Nash and Cedric Morris. Henry was also a founder and active member of the Colchester Arts Society.

Working Life

Together, Henry Collins and wife  Joyce Pallot have worked on a large number of murals and exhibition designs for, amongst others: Jamestown Festival, USA; Brussels Exhibition; Expo 70; Japan; Shell Centre; GPO Tower, London; Grosvenor House, London; Ind Coope Ltd; Philips Business Systems; Sainsburys; British Home Stores; Cwmbran Arts Trust; Essex County Council; IBM, London.

Henry  waas a regular exhitor at Hayletts gallery when it was based in Colchester during the 1990's. He notably exhibited a number of times at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions
