Biography for Ian Hay RCA (1940 - 2025)

This artist known for pastel paintings of London and The Thames was a lecturer at St Martin's School of Art 1963-77, Norwich School of Art 1971-75; senior lecturer in drawing at Colchester Institure from 1978-2001.

Hay wonthe RCA prize for landscape painting 1963 and has enjoyed many one man and group shows in both Essex and London. His works are in private and public collections including Guildhall Art Gallery, Sheffield Art Gallery, Doncaster City Art Gallery, University of Essex.

Hay had a major retrospective exhibition A Life Drawing (Minories Art Gallery Colchester) 2010; and was given an honary doctorate at  University of of Essex 2009
