Biography for Jane Lewis RWS
About
The landscape is her starting point - she walks everyday in all weathers, all seasons oftentaking the same path, seeing the same fields, trees and woods etc. noting the superficial and subtle daily changes though the underlying structure remains constant.
Aspects of form, colour, tone, shape, line, weather, temperature, light and shade coalesce in her memory to form an internal visual vocabulary and will at some point contribute to a painting.
She regards painting/visual art as a language in itself and as with any language, capable of
communicating at various levels of complexity and understanding. Also important, is to allow the quality of the medium to speak, sometimes it may dictate and at times pushing it to the limit.
Background
She has an Honours degree in Fine Art from UCW Aberystwyth and has exhibited
throughout the UK including RA, RWA (Bristol), Mall Galleries and Bankside and is an elected member of the Royal Watercolour Society. She is currently Chair of the Selection Committee for Colchester Art society.
