Biography for Luella Martin

Luella Early life & Education

Born and educated in London, she studied at Hornsey College of Art and Byam Shaw School of Art, followed by post‑graduate studies at Goldsmiths College, London — a foundation that continues to inform her thoughtful, exploratory approach to image‑making.

Career

After lecturing part‑time in London and Sussex, Luella travelled extensively throughout Europe and spent twelve years living in Australia, including seven years aboard a steel ketch in Queensland. This period of travel and immersion in diverse landscapes profoundly shaped her artistic language, deepening her sensitivity to light, horizon, and environment.

Since returning to England in 1997, Luella has worked full‑time from her studio at Phoenix Brighton, a leading centre for contemporary art on the south coast. Her practice focuses on creating atmospheric landscape paintings, solar plate etchings, and fine art prints that capture the quiet poetry of land, sea, and shifting weather.

Luella’s work is represented by several galleries across the UK, and she has exhibited internationally at major art fairs in Brighton, London, New York, and Melbourne. Collectors value her work for its lyrical quality, technical refinement, and contemplative connection to the natural world.

Due to the current circumstances we are operating as an online gallery. Please telephone us to arrange a viewing of an art work.
