Biography for Patrick Procktor RA (1936 - 2002)
Early LIfe
Procktor was born in Dublin in 1936. After serving in the Royal Navy, he studied at the Slade School, 1958–62.
Career
He started his career with huge success at the Redfern Gallery, in 1963 where he nearly sold out before the show opened in 1963.
His style was light and filled with space accompanied by fresh inviting colours used carefully.
His subjects were inspired by his extensive travels where he paintied figures, interiors and landscapes either in watercolour or etching aquatints
The books he illustrated include Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner 1976 and A Chinese Journey,1980, illustrated with aquatint landscapes.
