Biography for Sonia Coode-Adams MBE (1940)

Sonia studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art 1957 – 1958 and has worked as an artist off and on ever since. She has exhibited in numerous mixed exhibitions and had a one-woman exhibition with Baskett and Day in 1983. She also exhibited in “Pandora’s Box”, a touring exhibition in 1984 – 1986.

With Lockdown she started painting full-time again and since then she has had a one-man exhibition at Firstsite during Lockdown in 2020 called ‘Lockdown Garden’ of the first 20 of her garden paintings. These now number 67. She also showed a piece ‘Reading Book’ in ‘Tell me the Story of all These Things’ in 2020 at Firstsite. In 2023 she was included in an exhibition at Firstsite called Big Women. Her restaurant paintings are currently shown in the café at Firstsite.
